“Repeated screw-ups”

  , New York
House of Horrors. Room 106 (or was it 104) had no number outside. When we checked the shower, the handle fell off so no bath or shower was possible. There was no wastebasket, but we never mentioned that. When we complained about the shower, the desk clerk changed our room to 116 -- which was another set of horrors. The bedding had not been changed, but we didn't discover that until we got into the bed -- it was very late and we were tired after a long drive. The note pad was written on by the previous resident and open/used soap was left in the bath tub. One bedside lamp had a burned out bulb, and the other lights were operated by crazy, automatic switches I couldn't figure out how to work -- so when either of us walked to the bathroom late in the middle of the night, lights started to pop on and woke the other person. I sometimes say "you get what you pay for" -- but Day's Inn should be ashamed of this one -- this was way below even budget standards. It's been a long time since I've seen a TV with a big tube, but that was standard in both rooms. The microwave in the second room had cigarette burns on top. Even as renovations may be going on in other parts of the place, it is no excuse for the service problems in the existing areas. The three front desk clerks were nice, young kids -- responded quickly, but were clueless. We left in a hurry in the AM and never bothered mentioning how bad things were in the second room. We were "seniors" using our AARP discount -- were these terrible rooms the ones reserved for seniors with discounts?
