I was a little concerned when I read the TripAdvisor reviews for this place right after I booked my reservation. I was having a tough time finding a room in San Francisco at a moderate rate while in town with a group of friends for a three-game series between the Baltimore Orioles and SF Giants at AT & T Park. Many of the reviews listed a series of complaints and critiques that included, unfriendly service at the front desk, bed bugs, dirty rooms, late-night noise, unsavory characters roaming the premises that may have included; vagrants, pimps, prostitutes and drug dealers. I did not really encounter any of these issues. The man at the front desk quickly expedited the check in process. He asked if I preferred a first or second floor room. Based on what I had read, the second floor seemed preferable, I also asked if there might be a particularly quiet location. He said he'd put us in a room above and behind the front office. It was still pretty close to the street, I wasn't sure why it might be quiet, but the front office building may have provided a bit of a buffer. I did notice a vagrant looking person rummaging through the dumpster as we made our way to the room. I had walked to the hotel from the Bart train station about four blocks away at Mission and 16th Street, a colorful corner in the funky and eclectic, Mission District. I noticed the scent of burning Marijuana during most of the walk, this was not unique to the neighborhood as I seemed to pick up a whiff of pot all over the city just about all of the time. There was a medical Marijuana dispensary located on the corner across the street from the hotel, as well as a liquor store, massage parlor, and a combo-laundry mat/coffee shop, some reviewers may see this as a detriment others might think it convenient. There was also a very cool bar, that a friend who lives in town recommended to me, just two blocks from the hotel. Overall we found the location to be ideal, we were able to walk to the ballpark and other parts of the city with relative ease or pick up a cab almost instantly. When we returned mostly late in the evening, I did notice small groups of people kind of hanging around but they were not particularly noisy and didn't bother us. We had no trouble sleeping at night and the room was sufficiently clean. We did see a lot of homeless people in the neighborhood mostly on Market Street and some relative filth, but hey that's life in the city. « less
